About Julia
Originally from the Philadelphia area, Julia has now found home in the city of Chicago. Julia strives to create thought provoking music that addresses social issues. She is a strong believer in the idea that music can help people empathize, understand, and talk about difficult subject matter. Most of her new work centers around the struggles of mental health.
Prior to pursuing her Master's degree, Julia worked in arts administration, working with organizations such as Jazz Arts Group of Columbus and Columbus Children's Choir. Her work in arts administration has amplified her desire to bring more music events and opportunities to the community. In 2024 Julia Galgon, along with her business partner, Clara, a cocktail bar and live performance space dedicated to the promotion of local artists in the Chicago area. As acting Executive Director, Julia has made it her goal to promote the arts and help fellow musicians succeed.
Julia received her Master's degree in Music Composition at The Longy School of Music of Bard College, Cambridge, MA. She received her Bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in Composition from Otterbein University, Westerville, OH.
